“Tale from the past” by Dhimitër Anagnosti screened at Festival LUMIÈRE 2023

For the second year in a row, classical Albanian cinematography is presented to the European public at the prestigious international film festival LUMIÈRE, in Lyon, France, in the city where cinematography itself was born. After the screening of the restored film “Tana” in 2022, in this year’s edition the curators of the festival have selected the film “Tale from the past” by director Dhimitër Anagnosti (1987) to be shown in its restored version in the Treasures & Curiosities section.

Treasures & Curiosities brings together little-known or forgotten films, allowing audiences to immerse themselves in vital cinematography works or (re)discover moments of motion picture history. The Lumière Film Festival salutes the film libraries and archives worldwide for their restoration work, which brings to life classic cinema, “their” classic cinema. All the films in this section bear the Lumière Classics label.

The film was presented by archivist Mrs. Eriona Vyshka, who was also a guest of the Festival, and by cinema researcher Mr. Joël Chapron. The presentation was preceded by the opening speech of the programming director of the Lumiere Festival, Mrs. Maelle Arnaud.

“Tale from the past” (Une fable de jadis) had two screenings:

Friday, October 20, 11:30 at Institute Lumiere (Villa)
Saturday, October 21, 16:45 at Cinema Opera

The Albanian Ambassador to France, H.E. Mr. Dritan Tola, attended the screening, together with the Honorary Consul in Lyon Mr. Denis Di Leonardo, members of France Albanie Business Club as well as Albanian citizens residing in Lyon.

We want to thank Évelyne Noygues for preparing the French version of the subtitles and ensuring “Tale from the past” is fully enjoyed by the Festival’s audience.
