The central film archive is responsible for the intellectual inventory of the film catalogue and for the organization of the file system containing the whole cinematographic material. To this end, there exists a manual filing system that has been established over a period of 40 years as a result of the meticulous work performed by the staff of the film archive of the Albanian Film Studio such as Nexhmi Backa, Abas Hoxha, Naria Qesari, Sonja Budina, Ruzhena Çollaku, Marjeta Kotani and others. To the manual filing system an electronic database has been added, operating on the WINSIS system. Every image is easily identifiable and searchable through keywords.

The scientific sector works towards enriching the information at hand on the Albanian film products with complementary research material, pictures, manuscripts, newspaper articles, and other supplementary information that sheds further light on the history of Albanian cinematography.

The sector also conducts research aimed at the enrichment of the collection itself, by tracking films that relate to Albania and any bit of information that complements the Albanian film history as part of the world cinematography. To this end, the sector prepares and publishes its own research.
