Synopsis | After the collapse of the communist system in Albania, all that was left of the once “granite rock” was an impoverished country on the verge of chaos – and a collection of strange propaganda artifacts. The radical changes obliged the artists and the society as a whole to start searching for their identity in an unknown artistic, economic, social and mental terrain. Although placed before a wave of emigration, many artists refused to leave the country. Fatmir Koçi asks artists about their reasons for staying in, and about how liberation from the totalitarian dictatorship has affected their creative work. Working with colors and music, Koçi rhythmically interweaves the contemporary reality of Albania with sequences from communist propaganda films. |
