| Description | In Tirana, from May 15–27, 1961, a trial was held against a group of defendants accused of crimes against the state. Crowds gathered outside the courtroom. Views of the judicial panel. The accused included Ali Xhelo, Nasho Grexho, Asllan Veliu, and Teme Sejko. Members of the judicial panel present were Muharrem Kokomani, Sotir Spiro, Bejto Isufi, Ilmi Telegrafi, with secretary Murat Deliallisi. The presiding judge Aranit Cela addressed the court. The prosecutor read the indictment. Views of the accused group: Teme Sejko, Tahir Demi, A. Resuli, Ali Xhelo, Hajri Mane, Sami Murati, Nasho Grexho, Jonuz Purizo, Adem Osmani, and Asllan Veliu. Tahir Demi testified, and the defendants began giving their statements, admitting to their “betrayal against the homeland.” People read newspapers reporting on the trial. Teme Sejko testified about his “hostile activities.” Foreign journalists listened. The defendants confronted each other. Each spoke in turn. The public followed the trial against the ten defendants with keen interest. Witnesses gave testimony regarding the defendants’ alleged hostile activities. Aranit Cela delivered the sentence. Defense attorneys spoke: K. Dilo representing Teme Sejko, Pandeli Kosturi, Dhimiter Evangjeli, and Vera Bozgo. The defendants also made final statements. The court’s decision was read by Shuaip Panariti. Teme Sejko, Abdyl Resuli, Tahir Demi, and Hajri Mane were sentenced to execution by firing squad. Sami Murati, Nasho Grexho, and Jonuz Purizo received 25-year prison sentences; Adem Osmani received 20 years, and Asllan Veliu received 15 years. The courtroom applauded. |
